I want to update my domain from mycreditunion.com to mycreditunion.org
When changing your domain name, you need to update your database tables to reflect the URL change. The easiest way to do this without downtime is to contact your hosting provider (e.g., Liquid Web) and let them know you'd like to perform an internal migration to a new domain name.
- First, if you are a UXR customer, please let your UXR rep know your intention to change domains. If you are not, please start by submitting a ticket at support.metrifi.com
- Next, contact Liquid Web and let them know you'd like to clone the existing CPanel account and migrate to a new domain name.
- Note: Liquid Web internal migrations are first-come, first-served and depend on the availability of migration staff. Please allow as much lead time as possible to ensure your migration proceeds on time.
- Once the initial migration is complete, Liquid Web will provide instructions for testing it. Please work with your IT team to set up the necessary host file modifications to preview the site.
- Note: If you use AutoSSL, your SSL certificate may only work on the new site once the migration is complete and your DNS has been updated.
- Once you've tested the site and confirmed that things are working, Liquid Web will schedule a "Final Sync." Before you start, please make sure you do not need to make any additional changes until the final sync is complete. Otherwise, these changes will not be synced to the new site.
- Once the final sync is completed, please work with the person who maintains your DNS records (usually a member of your internal IT team) to point the new domain. Once the domain is indicated, there may be a propagation period. You should monitor whatsmydns.com for propagation status.
- Finally, once the DNS change has propagated, you should set up a redirect from the old domain to the new one. We recommend that you work with your internal IT team to determine the best way to implement this redirect for your configuration.
- Finally, please notify our support team that the new domain is live by creating a ticket at support.bloomcu.com so we can reconnect your ManageWP instance.
Common Issues
1. The domain has been pointed, but AutoSSL is not working - You can contact Liquid Web support and request that they force AutoSSL to update
2. My website search returns the old domain name - Try re-indexing your Algolia search function
3. My Site is not redirecting, and I get an SSL error - If you are redirecting at the domain level, this could indicate that your SSL certificate is invalid for one of the domains (.com and .org). The best solution is to have your IT team work with Liquid Web (or your SSL vendor, if you are not using AutoSSL) to set up a redirect that accounts for both SSLs (such as an .htaccess redirect). Note: when using the HTAcess method, it's essential to ensure both SSL certificates remain up to date. If you are using a paid SSL certificate for your new domain name, one possible solution is to set AutoSSL for the old domain name. This will ensure the SSL renews at regular intervals without needing to be reinstalled.
