Frequently Asked Questions About PHP Updates

Why do I need to update my PHP version?

As new versions of PHP are released, support for old versions is dropped. That means there will eventually be no new security updates for PHP, and over time, this can lead to vulnerabilities on your server.

How do I update my PHP version?

The easiest way to update your PHP version is to contact your hosting company and have them make the change for you. This change takes only a few minutes, and can usually be resolved in a single short chat session.

What version of PHP is supported by BloomCU plugins and themes?

8.2

Can I test the Update before applying it?

Yes! Your development site is currently running version 8.2. In most cases, if there are no visible errors on your development site, the update will not cause issues on production.

In some cases, your production environment may differ from your dev environment, and unexpected issues can occasionally arise. If you would like 100% coverage, you may have your hosting company clone your site to a new server to test the update before applying it.

Do I need to test my website after the update?

Yes. We recommend thoroughly reviewing any critical pages after the update. If any issues are observed, please open a ticket at support.metrifi.com

Can the Update be rolled back if something breaks?

Yes! For sites on WHM/CPanel servers, such as those hosted by Liquid Web, the version can easily be rolled back in the event of a breaking change.

Can I update my PHP Version to a higher version than 8.2?

While we are working to update our themes and plugins to ensure compatibility with version 8.3, as of 10/27/2025, PHP 8.2 is the highest supported version. Updating to versions higher than 8.2 is not recommended.
